Schechinah Glory Series: Disciples of Jesus Christ Parsha - Bechukotai Lev. 26-27

-->
Dear Friends,

In closing, the Memorial Portion for the Sabbath, May 21st, 2011 teaches me that Faith is in God. God is not a religion. Faith is as unique as your own DNA.

Today, the Holy Spirit has taught me to receive the gift of faith. I am justified by our faith, for the immediate and the future. (Romans 4:23-25; James 5:17-18; and Romans 5:1.

This Parsha is not for the irrational. Only holiness to Jehovah, will please Him. This is a great lesson about faith. You need no one to validate what God gives you and what you make of yourself is your gift to God. Tithes have always been mandated, but be mindful to have faith that you can give tithes.

On the contrary, you sit right there and no sooner than I can get the blessing out of my mouth, you go all Judas Iscariot on me.

Star verses:
Leviticus 26:3 - 3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
Romans 9:27 - 27Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

Matthew 28:1-10
 1Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
 2Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
 3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
 4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
 5And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
 6And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
 7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
 8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
 9For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
 10And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
 11And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
 12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
 13I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
 14But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;
 15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
 16I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
 17And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
 18And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
 19And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
 20And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
 21And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
 22I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.
 23And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;
 24Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
 25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
 26And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
 27And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;
 28Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
 29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
 30And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. (Leviticus 26, King James Version)

 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
 2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation.
 3And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary.
 4And if it be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels.
 5And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
 6And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver.
 7And if it be from sixty years old and above; if it be a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
 8But if he be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him.
 9And if it be a beast, whereof men bring an offering unto the LORD, all that any man giveth of such unto the LORD shall be holy.
 10He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then it and the exchange thereof shall be holy.
 11And if it be any unclean beast, of which they do not offer a sacrifice unto the LORD, then he shall present the beast before the priest:
 12And the priest shall value it, whether it be good or bad: as thou valuest it, who art the priest, so shall it be.
 13But if he will at all redeem it, then he shall add a fifth part thereof unto thy estimation.
 14And when a man shall sanctify his house to be holy unto the LORD, then the priest shall estimate it, whether it be good or bad: as the priest shall estimate it, so shall it stand.
 15And if he that sanctified it will redeem his house, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be his.
 16And if a man shall sanctify unto the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the seed thereof: an homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
 17If he sanctify his field from the year of jubile, according to thy estimation it shall stand.
 18But if he sanctify his field after the jubile, then the priest shall reckon unto him the money according to the years that remain, even unto the year of the jubile, and it shall be abated from thy estimation.
 19And if he that sanctified the field will in any wise redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be assured to him.
 20And if he will not redeem the field, or if he have sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more.
 21But the field, when it goeth out in the jubile, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest's.
 22And if a man sanctify unto the LORD a field which he hath bought, which is not of the fields of his possession;
 23Then the priest shall reckon unto him the worth of thy estimation, even unto the year of the jubile: and he shall give thine estimation in that day, as a holy thing unto the LORD.
 24In the year of the jubilee the field shall return unto him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land did belong.
 25And all thy estimations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall be the shekel.
 26Only the firstling of the beasts, which should be the LORD's firstling, no man shall sanctify it; whether it be ox, or sheep: it is the LORD's.
 27And if it be of an unclean beast, then he shall redeem it according to thine estimation, and shall add a fifth part of it thereto: or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation.
 28Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD.
 29None devoted, which shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death.
 30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD. (Leviticus 27, King James Version)

Commentary:

Nothing is more important that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of receive, discern and have knowledge without any hesitance that you have the hope that is Special Faith - you still have joy in all of your trials and tribulations. Can I imagine being tied to a group of people that I identify with and claiming to have a special religion, only one that promises peace in the near future and the distance too. Religion or not, the Holy Spirit promises special gifts of God. Thinking back at my search for my heritage, I wondered what my ancestors Cherokee thought and the hopes that they had for theirselves and their children. I think expecting peace and love was on their mind because there is nothing more that I feel right now. Remember: God will wipe away every tear, He is Holy. In chapter 26 of the book of Leviticus, God gives rain, safety, peace, victory over your enemies, lordship over wild beast, favor, The Abrahamic Covenant, food, and His dwelling place to name a few. Read the New Covenant, God through His Son Jesus Christ gives you Love, Grace, Joy, abundance in Peace and Prosperity (Health and Fiances et al) and Justification etc.

In the opening Chapter god cautions you to use your free will to worship God. Magnifying Gods name means that you will shall not make idols (idolatry) Isaiah 19:1. I don't think about the connection that I have with anyone, however, I do think about having special faith, only an increase the Holy Ghost can give me, no more than I understand or can intelligently comprehend what to do with this special faith. I am justified in my faith by believing on my High Priest the Lord Jesus.

Be sure to use your free will to worship God. Don't try to get into anybody else's family or network of friends - if it's too much for you then don't practice idolatry. Yet there are many major religions that bow down before graven images, standing images and set-up stones of image -throughout your land. God is the God of the entire Universe, My God is Host of your gods. God, Jehovah, Father God - he alone is worthy of your praise, worship, service, submission, and your glory-most importantly He alone is worthy of your bow. Nothing else matters (Exodus 20:4; Deut. 5:8; Psalm 97:7).

Now when you walk in these statutes (Lev. 26:3), keeping the Sabbath and revere is sanctuary, His commandments, and do them then God will bless you for your obedience in the word. This passage lets me know that I can anticipate a blessing that has already been affirmed once I realize that the prophecy has been fulfilled then you know that there is a blessing. A prophecy is a foretold blessing. If there is a religion or a desire to associate with individuals who utter the prophetic word of God then I am guilty.

God will bless you in your obedience, to the word. God loves you, always. When you Glorify the name of God he tells you early that there is a place of his choosing, the Temple and Jerusalem. With so much rime and corruption against from the people occupying the physical churches that we do not have to walk in the statutes of God by teaching of the Holy Spirit - the Sanctuary is your body - the Body of Christ. Then the choosing of a place to Glorify His Name is the New Jerusalem - in Heaven. (Leviticus 19:30; Romans 5:1-2; Deut. 11:13; Revelations 21:2; 2nd Samuel 24:18-25; 1st Chronicles 21:18; 2nd Chronicles 3:1; and Ezekiel 45-16 through Ezekiel 46:18).

Lastly, the reason you should not be afraid of being alone, or even afflicted is because of God's great love for you and your ability to express the receiving of this blessing by making Disciple (Matthew 28:18-2)/ You will be in heaven and reconciled to the One True God, this is what the Apostle Paul teaches, this is true of the afterlife for you who truly love God, nothing will ever separate you from God (Romans 11:15 and Romans 5:10-11).

Romans 11:15. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Finally scriptures says, in Romans 15:5-6, "5Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: 6That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy. During the fall and winter of 1838 and 1839, the Cherokees were forcibly moved west by the United States government. Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died on this forced march, which became known as the "Trail of Tears."

Memorial Parsha of Jesus Christs': Va’etchanan at Deuteronomy 5

Awesome God, by Michael W. Smith, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38V8jnN1Kpw

In this chapter, Moses preaches the word of God, 3And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. 5Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. (Deuteronomy 4:20; Deuteronomy 7;6: Deuteronomy 14:2,21; Isaiah 10:24-27;1 Peter 1:8-11; 1 Peter 5:1-4).  Moses spoke the word of God, to the children of Israel, saying to follow (walk in the ways of God) the word of God so that life may go well with you and your children can grow up in freedom, out of Egypt, Pharaoh. (Matthew 13:11-17; Deuteronomy 5:16,27,29,33).  The Apostle Peter, another descendant of Aaron, holds the key to the church, which shall follow the words of Chris - the word of God, for the gospel is your salvation, and the law condemns you unto death. On the contrast, many shall know every word that Christ spoke, but shall not follow Christ, the Anointed One, in the church. Jesus spoke of the spirit, before he was glorified of God.  There will be many people that will tell you that you must join a physical organization, their church; which is not the House of God. Many will tell you the church has to be like this physical entity; which is not the Temple of God, nor in Jerusalem, nor where he will accept your spiritual sacrifices.  On the contrast, others may tell you this is the one True Religion. The kingdom of God is within you, this is the Temple of God. The church is in the heart. The church of God, is not Jew or Gentile.

However, the Apostle Peter spoke of the spirit he received after the Holy Ghost in Jerusalem. (Acts 1:1-8 and John 7:39).  Jesus is the truth (Isaiah 10:20-23). Jesus did not go to the Feast of Tabernacles, because the physical sacrifices ceased in the church.  The Church has one ordinance and that was instituted at the last supper (Passover).  Jesus also added one new commandment instituted by Jesus, for the restoration of the house of Israel, the lost tribes of Israel; Jesus let love lead you back to God.  Nevertheless, each one has the ability to have church within their heart, which is inside you. As the Apostle Peter said to the lost house of Israel, "you do not need to let anyone else lord over your heritage, this is the heritage of God. (Psalm 135; John 21:15 and 1st Peter 5:2,3).  God's heritage is from the words that the Moses spoke, from the LORD that you may learn and obey the statutes of God, and the judgments. It is difficult to say what will happen to you if you don't listen to the gospel that is the power of God, unto salvation (Psalm 132:10-12 and Micah 5:2; Deuteronomy 5:1).  God made a covenant with the children of Israel in Mount Horeb. (Isaiah 10:24-27). and Moses said to the descendants that were left as prey to be eaten by their parents. Moses acted as the intermediary to explain the word of God, the Ark of the Testimony - the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 19:5 and Deuteronomy 5:20.  The children of Israel, the house of Jacob shall say, 'we have heard God, and He has talked with me from heaven.' (Deuteronomy 4:30-36 and Exodus 19:22). The children of Israel's' eyes witnessed the sound of God and heard thundering's; lightning’s; noise of the trumpet; smoking mountain. (Hebrew 12:18 and Exodus 20:18).  Three times the people said to Moses we shall the word of God, we shall do all that He says. (Deuteronomy 5:2; Exodus 20:19; Exodus 24:3; Exodus 19:8).  God purchased you, so that you could dwell in the highest mountain of the LORD. (Obadiah 1:21). God will give you strength in the highest mountain of your life, in the sanctuary. I pray daily, that you will not have deaf ears. (Psalm 44:2; Psalm 80:8; and Exodus 15).God commands you to listen to His voice, and keep all of His statutes. God will heal you. (Exodus 15:26 and Deuteronomy 7:12). If you fear God, then you will understand the commandments, decrees and laws.  Then you will be careful to obey and listen to all the commandments that Moses teaches us, you and I, for Moses was the servant of God, he is the Saint.

In closing, this chapter the difference in the giving of Moses law, the Word of God, is that the children of Israel are a new generation, the first generation were the generations fore parents who wondered the wilderness for forty years. When God sanctified the mountain, he summons Moses to lead the children out of Egypt; he summons Moses to take the word of God, and summons Moses to take the testimony of the Ark of the Covenant, which is the Ten Commandments. God wrote the Ten Commandments with his finger, twice. I heard a woman say that Moses gave the people the Ten Commandments, then another one said all we have is a connection between goats and bulls, but you were an idolater before that because you are estranged to God. “Only when the horn sounded a long blast were the people allowed in the mountain, that the heavens and the earth have first witnessed the giving of the word of God, the Torah. Although our God is a God of hearing, there was lightening; and the sound of the trumpet to witness.  The word of God is that his heritage will make a treasured possession and a peculiar people (1 Peter 2:4-12 and Leviticus 19:3). The sacrifices were not performed for forty years, and when the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh received their inheritance on this side of Jordan, they already had many cattle.  It wasn’t until Judah had split with Israel (the Northern Kingdom), that the Priest was able to accept the sacrifices. (Joshua 22:9-30).

Next, issue in this chapter is the adherence to the ethical treatment of slaves. Moses speaks the word of God and says that ‘You shall remember that you were slaves in Egypt. This appeared to be one testimony that did not resonate, oven in 1869 during the Civil War, in the U.S.  There are going to be times that you are going to question your relationship with God. If Slaver were to flourish again in the U.S. would remain free? The enemy has literally peaked into your future, and you cannot let witch-craft affect your ability to prayer and lose hope in any unanswered prayer; you shall put your God first.  There are going to be times that you are going to question your relationship with God. If slavery were allowed to legally flourish in the U.S. who would remain free?  The enemy has literally peaked into your future, and when you pray, believe that all of your prayers will not go unanswered, that God knows best, and don’t blame God; he loves you and only wants the best for you. I say this not so that you will have the happiest of times. I have been homeless, destitute and many negatives; and I have helped the destitute and the fatherless – there is so much suffering in this world. Yet, God wants the very best for you. No matter how difficult the trial or tribulation, do not turn aside to the left or the right from God’s word. Always perform God’s word, obey and listen to the commandments. Video, in him I trust, by Tamela Mann, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5fAPO3T2zU.

Remember no how difficult your life is you will see in the remainder of the Memorial Parsha Va’etchanan that when you love God, you will obey Him, and prevent yourself from enter his wrath. (Deuteronomy 5:32).

Ty Tribbette, “No other choice.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVZqEZflupI

(Verse 1)
So many times in life before, I tried and tried to do things my way (hey, hey, hey)
I thought that I was smart enough, I thought I knew enough to (handle my self)
I didn’t realize the problem was, the struggle was between my will and Yours
So I’m giving up my will for Yours, I’m totally depending on You (please come through)

(Hook)
I have no other choice but to trust You
That’s all I can do
I have no other choice but to believe

(Verse 2)
Now when trouble comes my way, I don’t cry, I just lift my eyes (to the hills)
‘Cause Your word says my help is going to come, I’m just going to rest in what You say (hey, hey, hey)

(Bridge)
‘Cause I know every word You say is true
And every promise that You made it will come to
So no matter how long it takes
I’ll be here still giving praise
Waiting on my change to come

(Hook)

Finally, the difference of this Memorial Parsha Va’etchanan is that in the memorial Parsha Jethro is that the early church explains that the Sabbath is holy, because God worked six days, and sanctified the seventh day. (Exodus 20:8).  Jesus is my great Shepherd, and I am his sheep and I can hear his voice, I am more than the seed of Abraham, I am the lost house of Israel. God gave the people every reason why they should believe, and should obey his commandments, which means you will not worship the gods in the land of Canaan, that you should fear the world of the Lord God so that you can love God with every ounce of your love.

Psalm 137 (King James Version)
 1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.  2We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
 3For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
 4How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?  5If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.  6If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.  7Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.  8O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.  9Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

The 10 Commandments

Deuteronomy in Chapter 5, http://www.chabad.org/parshah/torahreading.asp?AID=36233&p=5&showrashi=true and, see also Exodus 20 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=deuteronomy%205;&version=9;

1. And Moses called all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, and learn them, and observe [them] to do them. א.

2. The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. ב.

3. Not with our forefathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, we, all of whom are here alive today. ג. Not with our forefathers: Alone did the Lord make [this covenant], but with us.

4. Face to face, the Lord spoke with you at the mountain out of the midst of the fire: ד. Face to face: Rabbi Berechiah said, “So said Moses: 'Do not say that I am misleading you about something that does not exist, as an agent does, acting between the seller and the buyer, [because] behold, the seller Himself is speaking with you.’” (Pesikta Rabbathi).

5. (and I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to tell you the word of the Lord, for you were afraid of the fire, and you did not go up on the mountain) saying, ה. אָנֹכִי עֹמֵד בֵּין יְ־הֹוָ־ה וּבֵינֵיכֶם בָּעֵת הַהִוא לְהַגִּיד לָכֶם אֶת דְּבַר יְ־הֹוָ־ה כִּי יְרֵאתֶם מִפְּנֵי הָאֵשׁ וְלֹא עֲלִיתֶם בָּהָר לֵאמֹר: saying: This refers back to (verse 4), “the Lord spoke with you at the mountain out of the midst of the fire… saying, ‘I am the Lord…,’ and I stood between the Lord and you”.

6. "I am the Lord your God, Who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ו. אָנֹכִי יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִיךָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִים:

7. You shall not have the gods of others in My presence. ז. לֹא יִהְיֶה לְךָ אֱ־לֹהִים אֲחֵרִים עַל פָּנָי: in My presence: Heb. עַל-פָּנָי, lit. before Me, i.e., wherever I am, and that is the entire world. Another explanation: As long as I exist [i.e., forever] (Mechilta). I have already explained the Ten Commandments (see Exodus 20:1-14).

8. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness which is in the heavens above, which is on the earth below, or which is in the water beneath the earth. ח.

9. You shall not prostrate yourself before them, nor worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a zealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, upon the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me. ט.

10. And [I] perform loving kindness to thousands [of generations] of those who love Me and to those who keep My commandments. י.

11. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not hold blameless anyone who takes His name in vain.

12. Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord your God commanded you. Keep [the Sabbath day]: But in the first set [of Ten Commandments] (in Exod. 20) it says: “Remember [the Sabbath day]!” The explanation is: Both of them (“Remember” and “Keep”) were spoken simultaneously as one word and were heard simultaneously. (Mechilta 20:8) שמור: ובראשונות הוא אומר (שמות כ, ז) זכור שניהם בדבור אחד ובתיבה אחת נאמרו ובשמיעה אחת נשמעו: just as [the Lord your God] commanded you: Before the giving of the Torah, at Marah (Shab. 87b).

13. Six days may you work, and perform all your labor,

14. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall perform no labor, neither you, your son, your daughter, your manservant, your maidservant, your ox, your donkey, any of your livestock, nor the stranger who is within your cities, in order that your manservant and your maidservant may rest like you.

15. And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord your God took you out from there with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, the Lord, your God, commanded you to observe the Sabbath day. And you shall remember that you were a slave…: God redeemed you on the condition that you will be His slave and keep His commandments.

16. Honor your father and your mother as the Lord your God commanded you, in order that your days be lengthened, and that it may go well with you on the land that the Lord, your God, is giving you. כַּבֵּד אֶת אָבִיךָ וְאֶת אִמֶּךָ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוְּךָ יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְמַעַן יַאֲרִיכֻן יָמֶיךָ וּלְמַעַן יִיטַב לָךְ עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ: as the Lord your God commanded you: Also regarding the honoring of father and mother they were commanded at Marah, as it is said: (Exod. 15:25),“There He gave them a statute and an ordinance.”

17. You shall not murder. And you shall not commit adultery. And you shall not steal. And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. And you shall not commit adultery: Adultery applies only [to relations] with a married woman.

18. And you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor shall you desire your neighbor's house, his field, his manservant, his maidservant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. [As the Targum [Onkelos] renders:] וְלֹא תֵרוֹג,“you shall not desire.” This too is an expression of coveting (חֶמְדָּה) , just as“pleasant (נֶחְמָד) to see” (Gen. 2:9), which the Targum [Onkelos] interprets as“desirable (דִּמִרַגֵּג) to see.”

Chapter 5, continued....

19. The Lord spoke these words to your entire assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the opaque darkness, with a great voice, which did not cease. And He inscribed them on two stone tablets and gave them to me. וְלֹא יָסָף, interpreted by the Targum [Onkelos]: וְלָא פְּסָק“and it did not cease.” [Because it is human nature that one is unable to utter all his words in one breath, but he must pause, whereas the characteristic of the Holy One, blessed is He, is not so. God did not pause, and since He did not pause, He did not have to resume,] for His voice is strong and exists continuously (San. 17a). Another explanation of וְלֹא יָסָף : He never again revealed Himself so publicly [as He did on Mount Sinai. Accordingly, we render: and He did not continue].

: 20. And it was, when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, and the mountain was burning with fire, that you approached me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. כ.

21. And you said, "Behold, the Lord, our God, has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we saw this day that God speaks with man, yet [man] remains alive. כא. וַתֹּאמְרוּ הֵן הֶרְאָנוּ יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֶת כְּבֹדוֹ וְאֶת גָּדְלוֹ וְאֶת קֹלוֹ שָׁמַעְנוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה רָאִינוּ כִּי יְדַבֵּר אֱ־לֹהִים אֶת הָאָדָם וָחָי:

22. So now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we continue to hear the voice of the Lord, our God, anymore, we will die.

23. For who is there of all flesh, who heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

24. You approach, and hear all that the Lord, our God, will say, and you speak to us all that the Lord, our God, will speak to you, and we will hear and do. And you speak to us: Heb. וְאַתּ, a feminine form]-You weakened my strength as that of a female, for I was distressed regarding you, and you weakened me, since I saw that you were not anxious to approach God out of love. Would it not have been preferable for you to learn [directly] from the mouth of the Almighty God, rather than to learn from me?

25. And the Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, "I have heard the sound of the words of this people that they have spoken to you; they have done well in all that they have spoken.

26. Would that their hearts be like this, to fear Me and to keep all My commandments all the days, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

27. Go say to them, 'Return to your tents.'

28. But as for you, stand here with Me, and I will speak to you all the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances which you will teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.

29. Keep them to perform [them] as the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside either to the right or to the left.

30. In all the way which the Lord, your God, has commanded you, you shall go, in order that you may live and that it may be well with you, and so that you may prolong your days in the land you will possess. ל.
